The Life and Times of a Video Game Design Student

About Tekanji

Andrea Rubenstein, aka tekanji, is the co-founder of the Iris Gaming Network and the game design student whose life and times are being chronicled here. If you want to know about her life outside of school, then look no further than The Official Shrub.com Blog, where she blogs on a whole host of topics, particularly the intersections of her interests of feminism, popular culture, and gaming. In addition to her own site, she guest blogs at the comics blog League of Substitute Superheroes and the video game blog Killer Betties (here’s her blog there).

After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a BA in Asian Area Studies (minor in Classical Myth, Religion, and Literature) in May of 2005 she took a year off and then moved to Japan in April of 2006 to study Japanese at The Yamasa Institute. In April of 2008 she began studying at HAL computer college in Osaka. Her long term goal is to work in Japan for a few years after she graduates and then return to North America to start her own company. She hopes to get a career in the video game industry and one day work on designing MMOs.
